Education & Training: | Dr. Seth graduated from J N Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh in 1979. Soon after, he left for the U.K. for pursuing post graduation degree and further training. After 10 years in the U.K., he left his career as Cardiologist at the Birmingham University, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, to return to India to start the Invasive Cardiology programme of the Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi as its Chief of Invasive & Interventional Cardiology in 1988. He has pioneered numerous new techniques of Angioplasty in Asia-Pacific. He was the first Cardiologist in India to use Directional Coronary Atherectomy and Stents and more recently the ‘Drug Eluting Stents' in treating heart blockages, a step that has revolutionised the treatment of coronary artery disease. He was also the first person in Asia to perform Angioscopy and Angiojet Thrombectomies and is amongst the few cardiologists in the world to perform Percutaneous Myocardial Laser Revascularisation. He also ran the first Rotablator certification course outside the US and he trained numerous Cardiologists in Asia Pacific region in the technique of Rotational Atherectomy. He is considered a national expert in the treatment of Aortic Aneurysms and dissection by endovascular stent grafts. |
Brief Bio: | Dr. Ashok Seth is an internationally renowned cardiologist who has contributed extensively to the growth, development and training in the field of Interventional Cardiology in the Asia-Pacific Region. For his outstanding contributions and achievements Dr. Seth was awarded ‘PADMA SHRI' by the President of India in 2003.
He has performed more than 40,000 Angiograms and 15,000 Angioplasties in his career, for which he has received recognition in the ‘Limca Book of Records'. He has been honoured extensively with numerous national and international awards like IMA NDB Life Time Achievement Award for excellence in Interventional Cardiology in India , IJCP Interventional Cardiologist of the Year 2001-02 Award and Andreas Gruentzig Award, to name a few. |
Additional Information: | | Dr. Seth is one of the youngest people to be honoured by Banaras Hindu University with Doctrate of Science (Honoris Causa) for his contribution to the field of Cardiology.
Dr. Seth is also the Visiting Prof. of Cardiology, University of Birmingham at U.K., Honorary Prof. of Cardiology, Bangladesh Medical College, Dhaka and Honorary Prof. of Cardiology at the Medical Colleges of Bhopal, Raipur & Bilaspur.

He is also the Founder Honorary Secretary of the ‘Endovascular Interventional Society of India'. He has been the Vice President of the ‘Cardiological Society of India.'
Dr. Seth has been invited to deliver guest lectures and teach Angioplasty techniques at more than 150 International Meetings all across the world.
He is on the Editorial Board of numerous scientific journals and has written over 150 scientific publications and has chapters in 15 books.
