What is Medical Tourism?
Medical tourism is when someone travels for any form of healthcare. It can be domestic (to another state) but is most commonly international. The reasons for medical tourism are typically a huge cost savings or to receive treatments that are not available in the patients home country.
How Much Can You Save?
This is the average range of savings a patient will receive for the top ten medical tourism destinations:
- Brazil: 25-40%
- Costa Rica: 40-65%
- India: 65-90%
- Korea: 30-45%
- Malaysia: 65-80%
- Mexico: 40-65%
- Singapore: 30-45%
- Taiwan: 40-55%
- Thailand: 50-70%
- Turkey: 50-65% Cost savings can differ based on the procedure. There are certain countries that specialize in certain procedures and are known to have lower prices.
Is it Safe?
Medical tourism over the years has become extremely popular. This has of course created an increase in clinics and hospitals popping up all over the interent advertising to be the best. There are many imposters out there that are posing as doctors and there are many scams. This is why we strongly discourage anyone from traveling abroad to receive a procedure just based off a letter from a doctor or clinic overseas. We at PlanetHospital have taken the time to travel to every facility, make sure all of the doctors are licensed and that we are sending our patients to a safe environment.
Is Medical Tourism Right for Me?
Medical tourism is not for everyone. Sometimes your current health condition can put limits on traveling abroad. Some locations may be better than others based on the distance of travel. This is why before we refer anyone to a doctor we require current medical records and sometimes need additional testing to ensure that it is safe for you to travel. Our priority is always your health and safety.
