About Breast Augmentation
Surgery involves the subglandular or submuscular placement of alloplastic material (either saline or slicone) implants to enhance the size of the breasts and in some cases replace what is lost after pregnancy and lactation
There are several approaches for placement which includes transaxillery(approach thru the armpit area), subareolar(under the areola or outer colored part of the nipple area), inframammary(in the lower fold of the breast) and transumbilical(approach thru the umilicus or belly button). Transaxillary and transumbilical involve a saline or inflatable implant while inframmary and subareolar in most cases can be done with prefilled or silicone implants.
The procedure is usually done as a outpatient under general anesthesia. It is a relatively short surgery.
